Highlight List View Rows

You'd think highlighting the current record row within a FileMaker list view would be a simple thing. Turns out, there have been a number of attempts at making this easy - it just hasn't been the case. The older method found in Highlight Record Row in list view used a script-trigging plug-in and there was another method that used a hyper-extended web viewer to force row background color.

With FileMaker 10, the easiest way, to-date, is here. In the associated file, it's just a straight simple Script Trigger. All you really need to do is set a global variable and this can be done with a layout script tied to OnRecordLoad.

However, I take an extra bit of effort to use conditional formatting to make the effect happen. My reasoning is described in the file.

#2. FILEMAKER WORLD - A GREAT PLACE TO BE

In the 1990's, we used FileMaker World as a place to promote our own offerings. Like so many other sites, we sort of let it die on the vine because it was a lot to maintain - plus, the content systems back then just weren't as powerful.

Recently, we revised the site (due to a server move) and decided to provide community access to the site. You can now promote your own offerings on the site and make sure you own information stays up-to-date. Simply head on over to FileMaker World and create an account. From there you can submit content to be included.

#3. ADD GRADIENTS EASILY USING GRADIENT MAKER

The problem is creating them. I personally used to use another piece of software (Photoshop). Now I rarely even open it when creating my FileMaker layouts! I can create highly optimized gradients right within FileMaker. A quick drag-n-drop and I'm making better-looking layouts.
